Grass fires have kept area fired departments busy this past week. Light rain on Wednesday and Thursday of this week will help with the problem. |
Fires have kept fire departments throughout the area busy this past week. Last Tuesday afternoon, September 26, the Mapleton Fire Department responded to a grass fire on the Ryan Paulsen farm, east of Mapleton. (photo above)
According to fire chief Jerry Bumstead, a tractor-combine sparked and ignited the grass around it. Forty acres were burned and the Danbury Fire Department assisted.
On Tuesday night the Fire Department was again called out, this time to a car fire near the Mapleton Airport. When the trucks arrived the fire had been put out.
The fire department again responded to a field fire on Sunday evening, October 1 on the Pat Clubine farm east of Mapleton. Apparently stalk bales started on fire from a hot bearing on the baler and it ignited the field causing damage to approximately three acres and some bales.
