Danbury, Iowa is located in the Southeast corner of Woodbury County. Danbury is
primarily a small farming community. The Danbury Fire Department serves residents in
Woodbury, Monona, Ida and Crawford counties in Northwest Iowa.
The Danbury Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1892 and
became incorporated as an entity with the City of Danbury in May of 1927. We respond to
nearly 25 fire request calls yearly ranging from grass, vehicle, farm and house
and commercial fires. In
addition to fire requests, We also assist the Danbury Ambulance with multiple injury
accidents and traffic control.
The Fire Department's current roster includes 20 firemen. The
departments officers include - Fire Chief, two Assistant Fire Chiefs, three Captains and
Training Officer. Monthly meetings are held for training and administration business.
In June of 2001, The Danbury Fire Fighters Association began construction on a
new 6 bay fire station. The new fire station is able to house all of the
fire department vehicles along with the ambulance. The fire station also
has a large training and meeting room, along with an office. The fire
station was constructed by Ortner Construction of Danbury at a cost of around
$150,000.00
Currently the Danbury Fire Fighters Association is busy in obtaining funding
for a new pumper. We have been awarded a $50,000 grant from the USDA
along with a $100,000 low interest loan. In addition, we have been
awarded $15,000 from Danbury Farm Supply on behalf of the ConAgra
Foundation.
The Danbury
Fire Department was also awarded $72,000 from the Department of Homeland
Security and FEMA. This is being used to purchase new equipment as well
as update the departments fire fighting equipment.
