A Mapleton family was left homeless following a late Wednesday afternoon fire last week.

According to fire chief Jerry Bumstead, the call came in about 3:30 p.m. regarding a house fire at 203 S. 6th Street. The home is occupied by Jeff and Lee Wolf and their three children. The family was at home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

A wood stove in an attached garage started the fire. Lost was the garage, kitchen and an office area. The other part of the house the firemen were able to save. The home is not livable, however, and fire chief Bumstead said it is questionable whether the house can be repaired. No vehicles were in the garage at the time of the fire.

Responding to help with the fire was the Danbury Volunteer Fire Department, Mapleton Police Department and Monona County Sheriff's Office. The Mapleton Ambulance was called in as a precautionary measure.

The Wolf family is presently residing on an acreage between Mapleton and Danbury. If you would like to help out the Wolf family donations of food would be appreciated.
