D & K Implement Fire in Anthon

On Tuesday Morning, February 21, 2006, The Danbury Fire Department answered the call for Mutual Aid from the Anthon Fire Department.  There were approximately a dozen fire departments that assisted with the call. The building is a total loss.

Anthon lost one of its businesses and a beautiful old building this morning due to a structural fire this morning.

Fire completely destroyed the old Hamann-Sauser building which is currently home to D & K Implement, across the street from the post office and the fire station.

Smoke was reported that at 6:00 a.m. At that time, fire was already pouring out of the north windows.

Eyewitness reports are that fire departments from Danbury, Oto, Pierson, Bronson, Smithland, Cushing, Hornick, Correctionville, Moville, Lawton and Anthon arrived on the scene to fight the blaze. The fire departments worked to keep the fire under control but the building was a total loss.

Flames also spread to an adjoining structure that contained tires, which likewise ignited.

At this time no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
