Larson Angus and Charolais The Home of Working Cattle |
The main product of our operation is the sale of yearling bulls which are sold in a silent auction in late March of every year. We have a growing market for replacement heifers and have sold open heifers in the past but we are planning to breed a group of this years heifer calves with the intention of selling them as bred heifers in the fall of 2008. |
The cows working above are representative of the kind of cows that we sell each fall as bred cows. Before we pick this group we cull all the open cows, bad uddered cows and the cows that did not raise a good calf. They go to the sale barn right after weaning their calves. The bred cows for sale are picked next and are cows that we think will do a good job for their new owners. |
Here is a representative sample of our replacement heifers on grass in August of 2006. We have made a determined effort to develope these heifers in such a way that their future production is not impaired. This effort results in heifers that are not as fat as some would like but we have found that properly develped heifers breed better and milk better . We had exceptional results getting these heifers bred this summer. These heifers are similar to what we would offer for sale in the fall of 2007. |
